The ABF is pleased to announce that it has awarded a sanction to Northam Ballooning Events Inc. to run the 23rd Australian Hot Air Ballooning Championships in Northam, Western Australia.

The Championships will be held from the 30th of August to the 4th of September 2021, with practice sessions commencing on the 27th of August.

Northam is situated in the Avon Valley, approximately 100 kilometres east of Perth.   This will be fifth time that Northam has hosted the Nationals, most recently in 2015 and 2019 and prior to that, in 1981 and 1984.

The ABF has recently purchased newly developed GPS loggers specifically designed for hot air balloon competition and they will be available to use at the event.

Gary Lacey will be the Event Director, directing his 4th Australian Nationals.

The Event will be run in the same style as a World hot air ballooning championship, to provide our Australian representatives with the best possible preparation for taking on the best in the World in 2022.   The rules will therefore follow those issued by Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (The World Air Sports Federation) Ballooning Commission.

Sean Kavanagh, winner of the 22nd Nationals in Mudgee NSW has thanked Northam for hosting the event and said that he “could not think of a better flying area to defend my title”.

We wish the Event organisers all the best for a successful and safe event.
