This is an English book and although it is written for the UK there is a lot in it of value to Student Pilots and others, in Australia. Whilst it is not essential to have a copy to obtain your PPC it is a very useful text for all pilots and those interested in the practical side of ballooning. Fabric wall hanging -  Offers over $40 considered    Long stitch, framed -  Offers over $70 considered			Posted 14.11.09 BALLOON WALL HANGINGS Two wall hangings that the owner now no longer have a place for.   The first one is fabric stretched on a wooden frame.  The hot air balloon and basket have been quilted (trapunto) to create a 3D effect.  The overall size of the wall hanging is 800mm wide x 1060mm high. The second is a long stitch scene professionally framed with a coloured mount behind non-reflective glass.  This was a commemorative design for Australia's Bicentenary when we had hot air balloons flying over the tall ships on Sydney Harbour.  (We didn't get to Sydney but we saw the regatta that was held in the Barossa - it was awesome).  This framed picture is 700mm wide x 480mm high. 			Porosity Tester for Hire Thinking of buying a 2^nd hand balloon? You might want to hire this before you part with your cash! Aerostar require that an assessment be made of the porosity of a balloon during the 100 hourly inspection and provide a tool for the purpose, the PX-1 porosity tester. This is a portable porosity tester which gives a much better indication of the state of the fabric than a simple blow test. No other balloon manufacturer worldwide has devised a simple to use, calibrated test unit. You simply plug it in to the 240V power and hold it up to the fabric, the gauge reads the fabric porosity. Aerostar demands that the average fabric porosity is less than 50 cubic feet per minute per square foot of fabric. Whilst no other manufacturer has defined a fail criteria for porosity this is probably a good starting point especially if you are purchasing a used balloon. Every now and then we look to bring a new pilot through our operation and train them in house up to Class 4 and finally into the 450’s. The position is open to all applicants with an Australian CPL (B) of any Class including Class 1 pilots just starting out. The pay rate will depend on a what skill level the pilot is at and the amount of time and training required to get them Class 4 rated flying 400’s & 450’s. We fly mainly larger balloons mostly 450’s. The starting position would be based at our Cairns operation as this is where all the in house training would occur.
