All in very good order with new 100 hourly, a very sweet rig to fly.

KAVANAGH D90. VH-BIE  "Candy"

Complete balloon. Envelope, basket, fan, trailer, two UHF radios, one VHF radio, GPS. All in very good condition, with some extras.

  • Envelope with the top third HTN90, parachute vent. 50 hrs TTS. Those really hard to use  "cotton reels" to rig it have been replaced with karabiners.
  • Galaxy Basket built for a 70 (so you can't overload it).
  • Single burner than adequate for pilot and three passengers. Brand new complete rego valve, (hoses and valve are from the factory in the states).
  • Complete set of brand new hoses. 3 Worthington cylinders - 1 master, 2 slaves have just been tested and are good for another 10 years.
  • 30" wooden prop fan, Honda motor 
  • The trailer is pretty ordinary, as anyone who has seen me at the events will know (but it still got me down from Rocky to Canberra and back many years) it also has new registration.
  • Two UHF radios with extra batteries, the VHF does not.
  • Instruments have just been tested and are right for another two years.
  • The annual was done in August this year.

So over all there is absolutely nothing to do to this but fly it.

Made for the 1988 Bicentennial Trans-Australia event and has no more than 50 hours flight time. Stored since then undercover in dry storage.  Feel free to inspect. Porosity Tester for Hire

 

Thinking of buying a 2nd hand balloon? You might want to hire this before you part with your cash!

 

Aerostar require that an assessment be made of the porosity of a balloon during the 100 hourly inspection and provide a tool for the purpose, the PX-1 porosity tester. This is a portable porosity tester which gives a much better indication of the state of the fabric than a simple blow test.

 

No other balloon manufacturer worldwide has devised a simple to use, calibrated test unit. You simply plug it in to the 240V power and hold it up to the fabric, the gauge reads the fabric porosity.

 

Aerostar demands that the average fabric porosity is less than 50 cubic feet per minute per square foot of fabric. Whilst no other manufacturer has defined a fail criteria for porosity this is probably a good starting point especially if you are purchasing a used balloon.

 

My PX-1 is available for hire for $30 per week plus postage.
