ADVENTURE BALLOONING

LAKE MUNGO WILPENA POUND ALPINE

Adventure ballooning is flying 'over the horizon'. It may be your personal 'horizon' or somewhere no one has gone before.

LAKE MUNGO - NEW SOUTH WALES

Lake Mungo is a dry lake in the desert of New South Wales about 100 km north east of Mildura, Victoria.

At the end of the 1996 Australian National
Championships a small group of balloonists made the trek from Mildura for an afternoon flight over the lake and the clay cliffs of the "Walls of China" on the eastern edge of the dry lake landing at sunset.

WILPENA POUND - SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Wilpena pound is a huge natural 'arena' like a meteor crater deep in the South Australian desert.

THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS,
JINDABYNE -
NEW SOUTH WALES
Jindabyne is a winter ski resort on the eastern slopes of the Australian Alps (The Snowy Mountains)

Lake Jindabyne, a huge reservoir dams the Snowy River and diverting its water through huge tunnels to inland irrigation and hydro-electric power dams of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme on the western side of the mountains.

The Australian Alps may not be so high as their European namesakes but they are a major challenge for the hot air balloonist.
