Australian Ballooning Federation

The Australian Ballooning Federation is responsible for the day to day administration of sport ballooning in Australia, and is contracted to carry out safety and surveillance duties for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

As the principal ballooning body in Australia, the ABF is responsible for:

• Safety issues
• Landowner relations
• Maintenance and publication of the official operations manual for balloonists
• Training of pilots, instructors and examiners, and
• The issue of private pilot, instructor and examiner certificates.

  The ABF is not responsible for commercial ballooning in Australia, that responsibility resides with CASA.

Sport Ballooning:
The ABF is affiliated with the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the international body responsible for sport aviation, through the Australian Sport Aviation Confederation, and has close links to the FAI Ballooning Commission (CIA).

Constitution:
The ABF is governed by a detailed constitution setting out the minimum standards and requirements for its organisation and management.
