COMPETITION DIRECTOR – Les Purfield An engineer from Rugby, U.K., Les is a well-known international Competition Director and has directed many major balloon competitions around the world. He was the Competition Director for the 2007 Australian Nationals in Benalla. Les is the recipient of the FAI CIA 1992 Montgolfier Ballooning Diploma and the 1993 FAI Air Sport Medal.
ASSISTANT COMPETITION DIRECTOR
– Ruth E Wilson Ruth is an experienced competition, commercial and adventure balloon pilot. Amongst her achievements, she was the 1979 Australian National Champion, organiser of the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Trans-Australian Ballooning Challenge and Fiesta Director for the 2004 World Championship held in Mildura. Ruth will be assisting Les with the competition organisation. SAFETY OFFICER - Ian Hogben Ian is the ABF Operations Manager and a commercial balloon pilot. METEOROLOGIST - Don Whitford Retired Bureau of Meteorology veteran, Don runs a private weather consultancy and has provided weather information for many previous Championships. JURY John Wallington - 1988 National Champion and experienced competition and commercial balloon pilot. Dale Allen – ABF Administrator, balloon pilot and previous Jury Member. Ian McIlvain – Private balloon pilot. Long-time international competition Observer and official. SCORERS Scorer - Steve Ireland Commercial balloon pilot, Competition Director and internationally renowned competition scorer. Assistant Scorer - Martin Tregale ABF Secretary and international competition official. Martin recently assisted at the Worlds in Hungary. CHIEF OBSERVER - Bill Brown Bill is an experienced competition Observer. CHIEF DEBRIEFER - Ian Benning Ian is an experienced international competition Observer. FARMER RELATIONS OFFICERS – Richard
Glasson - As a
long time farm property owner in the Canowindra district and regular balloon
team member, Richard will be an invaluable to the competition committee. Adrian
